for computerized piano (Disklavier)
There is a lot of Op Art I admire, such as the paintings of Bridget Riley, and it has often occurred to me that the Disklavier could be used to similar effect, for example, to create patterns in which seemingly backgrounded details would sparkle within a surface sonority. This is an attempt to play with the idea; hence, from Op(tical) Art to Audi(o) Art. I tried to create textures that would require close listening to figure out what was going on.
Note: I wrote a song on Ezra Pound's "Na Audiart." I pronounce that one Owe-diart, as in French, and this one Awe-diart. "Audart" seemed ungainly.
